i can help with the underwater thing! at least to show why he'd choose ideally to stay on land.

she points out that he's barely spent more than a couple days underwater ever in his entire life, and he defends with his 'spying' thing. given that he's thirteen years old, it's a pretty thinly veiled attempt to defend his pride.

the whole joke was that he's not actually trying that hard to kill them but instead this is where all his friends are. if he liked to be underwater, he'd clearly find time to spend it down there, particularly since his moirail/flushcrush was primarily there.

I do think that the reason he spends time above ground is to spend time with his friends, the whole "spying" thing aside. I can agree on that point. However, I really don't think that he doesn't like being underwater; more that he just has reason to be above ground more often than not. It's a matter of circumstance. As for Feferi's statement, I read that as a hyperbole - she doesn't literally meant he's only been underwater for five days. Just not a whole lot, and definitely more than a couple of days.

In the Country, he has no reason to be above ground as he has an estranged relationship with his fellow trolls, and that's why he spends most of his time underwater.

Thanks for the snippet, though I don't think this is something that I'd want to really debate upon - it's just really a matter of interpreting the text, and I as the player see him as someone who spends his time where he feels comfortable, and in the Country, that's underwater.
